sgw_region_headerRainfall recorded at South Gippsland Water’s storages from 13th January 2017 – 20th January 2017. Lance Creek 17mm, Ruby Creek 16mm, Coalition Creek 34mm, Deep Creek 26mm, Little Bass 27mm and Battery Creek 13mm.

As we enter the second half of summer, now is a timely reminder that the community should be conscious of their water use and to use water in a targeted manner.

The region’s water storages are starting to show signs of the warm dry conditions, with most water levels declining each week. As a result, in the coming weeks, South Gippsland Water is preparing to activate supplementary water supplies for Korumburra with water from the Tarwin River.

South Gippsland Water’s Managing Director, Philippe du Plessis said that, “As with previous years, South Gippsland Water is monitoring conditions and storage levels to ensure efficient use of water resources.

The current climatic conditions, paired with declining storage levels, have triggered the Corporation to prepare to commence supplementary supplies. Preparations are underway for both pumping and treatment systems to ensure a smooth introduction of supplementary supplies to the Korumburra Water Supply System. Supplementary supplies are expected to commence early February 2017”.

All customers are encouraged to be conscious of their water use and to use water in a targeted way and should ensure that they are following the Permanent Water Saving Rules which are;

  • Water during the cool: Only water gardens with sprinkler systems between the hours of 6pm and 10am.
  • Install trigger nozzles: All garden hoses should be fitted with a trigger nozzle
  • Sweep, don’t hose: Use a broom to sweep paving and hard surfaces.Permanent Water Saving Rules are in place to help all Victorians maintain a common-sense approach to water use. The rules are in force permanently and are separate from any other water restrictions South Gippsland Water may need to impose from time to time.For more information about the Permanent Water Saving Rules or efficient water use, visit www.sgwater.com.au
