Planning for safe and sustainable water supplies – have your say
Friday, May 21st, 2021
We want to continue to deliver quality, sustainable water and wastewater services, at a fair and reasonable cost to our customers.
That’s why, we’re calling for your thoughts and ideas to help plan South Gippsland’s water supplies for the next 50 years.
The Urban Water Strategy is a 50-year plan that guides our decision-making as your water and wastewater services provider.
It is revisited every five years in response to the constantly changing outlook in supply and demand for water supplies. It influences how we provide your water and wastewater services. The Urban Water Strategy will also include analysis and planning for wastewater systems.
South Gippsland Water Acting Managing Director Mark Lynch said South Gippsland Water will be hard at work this year to further our understanding of how our systems work and future impacts to them such as regional growth and climate change.
“We’d like to encourage everyone in our community – in South Gippsland, the Bass Coast and the eastern part of Wellington Shire, to be part of the conversation around our water and wastewater future.”
South Gippsland Water provides water and wastewater services to communities across more than 1,234 square kilometres of Gippsland.
To make sure all communities’ views are represented, South Gippsland Water is establishing a new forum.
“We’re very excited about creating a new Community Advisory Committee to help us plan for the future. We’d love to see representatives from all the region’s towns on it,” Mr Lynch said.
“It’s an opportunity for people out there who are passionate about water, to make a very real contribution to the future of our region’s resources.
“As well as this new forum, we’ll have many other opportunities for people to have their say throughout our planning. We’re kicking this off today by inviting our community to participate in an online survey and share their views.”
Applications for the Community Advisory Committee open Friday 21 May 2021 and close on Monday 7 June 2021. For information on how to apply, the community survey or more information on the Urban Water Strategy visit our website www.sgwater.com.au/haveyoursay .
