Water safe to drink in Wonthaggi and Cape Paterson
Saturday, April 9th, 2022
South Gippsland Water has replaced the floating cover at the Wonthaggi treated water storage basin in time for Easter.
The replacement of the cover is part of a $3.3 million South Gippsland Water investment in our region.
The floating cover on the Wonthaggi storage basin ensures clean, treated water is stored safely without risk of any contamination. The basin ensures a reliable source of water in the event of a burst water main or treatment plant interruption.
During construction, the basin was taken offline. As this basin comes back online over the weekend, some people in Wonthaggi and Cape Paterson may experience a change in taste to the water.
We want to reassure everyone the water is clean and safe to drink.
We don’t expect any interruptions to your Wonthaggi or Cape Paterson’s water services.
We expect this situation to resolve over the next few days as water makes its way through the system.
