Storage, River Flow and Rainfall Update

Rainfall recorded at South Gippsland Water’s storages during the week of 12^th – 18^th October 2019 was Lance Creek 11mm, Ruby Creek 10mm, Deep Creek 10mm and Battery Creek 16mm.

South Gippsland Water’s Managing Director, Philippe du Plessis said, “All storage systems are tracking well for this time of year and water levels are where we want them as we move toward summer’s drier weather conditions.”

“We encourage customers to use spring as a prompt to do simple things to prepare for wise water use over summer,” said Mr du Plessis. “Outdoor water use accounts for 25-50% of the average home’s water and, with the warmer days we’re experiencing in October, the garden is a great place to start.”

Mulching garden beds is a great water saver and, according to Smart WaterMark, mulch is like a blanket on the soil and can reduce evaporation from soil by up to 70%. An investment in mulch also brings other benefits, it moderates soil temperature, inhibits weed growth and, over time, improves soil structure and the health of plants.
