Storage, River Flow and Rainfall Update

Rainfall recorded at South Gippsland Water’s storages during the week of 10^th-16^th August 2019 was Lance Creek 73mm, Ruby Creek 73mm, Deep Creek 54mm and Battery Creek 41mm.

South Gippsland Water’s Managing Director, Philippe du Plessis said, “After such heavy rainfall across the region, we are encouraged that all four of our reservoirs are now at 100% capacity.”

“The Ruby Creek reservoir usually takes longer to reach 100% than the other three as its catchment is smaller,” explained Mr du Plessis. “Last year the reservoir had reached capacity by the end of August, whereas, in 2017 it didn’t fill until the beginning of October.”

“With rain over the weekend, and more likely during the week, all reservoirs are now well prepared for when we move into warmer spring weather and the drier conditions that summer will bring.”

Even with storages in good shape, and even though it is still winter, South Gippsland Water encourages customers to be wise with their water-use throughout the entire year not only during summer.
