Water Prices Remain Stable
Monday, June 24th, 2019
With a new financial year just around the corner, South Gippsland Water advised that prices will remain stable for the year. The combined annual service fee for water and sewerage will reduce by $0.75, whilst the volumetric service charge will increase by $0.02 to $1.84 per 1,000 litres of water used.
In 2018, South Gippsland Water submitted its plans to the Essential Services Commission (ESC) for capital works and maintenance investment and therefore proposed prices to achieve services expected for customers. Following this process, South Gippsland Water was awarded a 9% real price increase, however, instead gave a commitment to keep prices stable whilst further planning was undertaken in 2019 and 2020.
Managing Director of South Gippsland Water, Philippe du Plessis said that, “The Corporation continues to look to the future and plan for sustainable water and sewerage services for the South Gippsland region. In order to keep prices stable for customers during 2018 and 2019, the corporation has undertaken increased borrowings and deferred some works into the future”.
“The Corporation is shortly going to undertake its planning and price review process with the ESC looking towards 2023, customers and community are encouraged to participate in the Community Planning Sessions occurring in late July. The voice of the customer is integral to the planning process and is highly valued by the Corporation in setting the future direction”.
Customers and community are invited to join the planning process and help the organisation “find the balance between customer expectations, water prices and long-term sustainability”.
Two Community Planning Sessions are set to be held over two weekends in July:
