Storage, River Flow and Rainfall Update
Rainfall recorded at South Gippsland Water’s storages from 29th December 2018 – 4th January 2019 was Lance Creek 6mm, Ruby Creek 5mm, Deep Creek 6mm and Battery Creek 7mm.
South Gippsland Water’s Managing Director, Philippe du Plessis said, “With extreme heat experienced last week, now is the time to ensure water efficient practices are being put in place. Storages are currently at satisfactory levels, however a close eye is being kept on Leongatha’s reservoirs which are sitting at 85% capacity”.
The dry conditions and extreme heat have also seen river flows drop back, customers supplied untreated water ‘By Agreement’ from the Tarra River are reminded that supply is not guaranteed and the recent heat has seen river flows reduce to below 5ML per day. If the Tarra River flows drop below 3ML per day, South Gippsland Water is not permitted to take water and therefore those customers situated off the pipeline between Tarra River and the Devon North Water Treatment Plant may not be able access water or will experience extremely low pressure.
Mr du Plessis said that, “South Gippsland Water staff will be regularly updating the Tarra River flows on the sign outside the Water Treatment Plant. River flows are today at ‘Good’ Levels between 4.0ML and 5.0ML per day. In anticipation of further hot weather and reduced river flows, the Corporation will activated the Supplementary Supply via the Devon North bore which will be utilised as required”.
