Time to Target Your Water Use

With South Gippsland Water activating Stage 2 “Save” Water Restrictions for Korumburra, water efficiency across the region is top of mind. All customers are encouraged to be conscious of their water use and to use water in a targeted manner.
Cutting back on your water use not only saves water, but also saves energy, money and the environment. The resources available at https://www.smartwatermark.org/Victoria/ have been designed to provide customers with some easy ways to save water in the home, garden and whilst at work.
Another key aspect of water efficiency is ensuring customers follow any water restrictions that may be in place. Whilst Korumburra is on Stage 2 Water Restrictions, that does not mean that other townships and customers can ignore the rules. Permanent Water Saving Rules are in place all year round and operate separate to any staged restrictions South Gippsland Water may need to impose. The Rules act as low level restrictions on the use of drinking water in the home and garden.
The top 3 rules to remember are:
- Water during the cool: Only water gardens with sprinkler systems between the hours of 6pm and 10am.
- Install trigger nozzles: All garden hoses must be fitted with a trigger nozzle and free of leaks.
- Sweep, don’t hose: Use a broom to sweep paving and hard surfaces. Hosing hard surfaces is not permitted.
Managing Director, South Gippsland Water, Philippe du Plessis said today that, “South Gippsland Water has also been considering water efficiency in its efforts to improve water quality for Korumburra. Air scouring is currently well underway and due for completion over the coming weeks. Customers may have observed crews conducting this cleaning work and have the perception that this process is wasting water. However, because the process mixes air with water, it is the most effective and water efficient manner of cleaning the pipes”.
